Ha Tien Travel Guide

Ha Tien is a border town of Kien Giang and located in the northwest of the province. It can be considered as the perfect gateway to Phu Quoc Island which is also the major point to connect Vietnam with Cambodia. Ha Tien is famous for Mui Nai beach and historical tales associated with the Khai Tran Quoc Cong Mac Cuu, who had reclaimed the land. From Ha Tien, tourists can easily get to Phu Quoc Island as well as combine with other attractions in Kien Giang province such as Rach Gia and Nam Du Island. Climate

Ha Tien has the tropical monsoon climate with the annual average temperature of 27 degrees Celsius. The lowest average temperature is 24°C that usually falls from December to January. 30°C is highest temperature which usually falls from April to May. From May to October, Ha Tien would receive the highest rainfall. In general, most of the time in Ha Tien is freshly cool which is very suitable for a beach vacation or visiting attractions.

Transportation

By bus

Because the distance from Ho Chi Minh City to Ha Tien is quite long, tourists should take the bus to get there and then rent a motorbike to travel around the town. You should choose Kumho which drives you straight to Ha Tien. If you pick Mai Linh or Phuong Trang then the bus will take you to Rach Gia and then you buy a ticket to get to Ha Tien. If visitors take a night bus, the best choices are Kumho (Tel: 08.3752 7878 - 180,000 VND per ticket), and Phuong Trang (Tel: 08.38 309 309 – 180,000 per ticket). On the national holidays, the ticket price can be up to 230,000 VND - 260,000 VND.

Motorcycle

When arriving in Ha Tien, tourists can rent a motorbike to go discover the town. It will cost you about 150,000 VND – 200,000 VND per day.

From Ha Tien to Phu Quoc

Many tourists want to combine Ha Tien with Phu Quoc tour. Here are some ways to get to Phu Quoc Island from Ha Tien:

• Ferry (Ferry Thach Thoi): it will take you 3 hours. The price is 170,000 VND per person.
• Speedboat: Superdong boat with air-conditioner is highly recommended. The price is higher compared to the other boats but it offers the most punctual departure time. The ticket price is 230,000 VND per adult and 160,000 VND per kid.
• Hong Tam 1 & Hong Tam 2 boat: Depart from Ha Tien Pier at 08h30, the running time is 1 hour 45 minutes. The ticket fare is 215,000 VND per adult and 140,000 VND per kid.

Ha Tien night market

When traveling to Ha Tien, tourists cannot skip Ha Tien night market. Ha Tien night market is always eventful and busy that attracts both locals and foreign travelers to come here for sightseeing, shopping and enjoying the delicious dishes. The diverse and abundant souvenirs, craft items and specialty are all sold here.

Gia Long Cave

Because the cave is located in the heart of the sea, visitors must take a motorboat to get to this unique and exciting cave. The length of the cave is 100 meters hidden in the mountains with countless stalactites with many strange and mysterious forms. Especially, there are many ancient coins gripping the stone. It is also the reason the cave was named Money Cave.

Da Dung Mountain

Nearly 100 meters high and about 6km from the center of Ha Tien, Da Dung Mountain is a very interesting destination to discover. The mountain has an important strategic position that associates with the fight of the Party and the people of Ha Tien against invaders. Visiting historical sites like Da Dung Mountain is like returning to the origins and also discovering the mysterious beauty of the caves.

Dong Ho Lagoon

Dong Ho Lagoon is best known for its beautiful and pristine scenery. Tourists are also attracted by the Biodiversity invaluable here. Terrain includes freshwater lakes, mangroves, residential land, cultivated land for aquaculture ..., makes richness, tourist attractions for this point. In particular, there are dress East Lake core area of the biosphere reserve in the world.

Mui Nai Beach

Mui Nai is located about 10 km from the center of Ha Tien town. Mui Nai is known for its pristine and calm beach. Coming to Mui Nai, visitors can go swimming, enjoy the natural beauty and the specialties of the coast and join entertainment activities on the sea.

Ha Tien Cuisine

Ha Tien has many specialties such as Ốc Giác, Cồi Biên Mai, Bánh Canh Chả Ghẹ, Gỏi cá Trích, Bún cá Hà Tiên, Hủ tiếu hấp Hà Tiên, Cà xỉu, Bún Kèn. If visitors would like to have meals at a restaurant, you can come to Hien restaurant near the market. Food and services are generally good and price is affordable. Quan 66 and Dong Ho Café are also highly recommended.
