Vinh Long Travel Guide

Vinh Long is one of the Mekong delta provinces of the south Vietnam and has long been considered as the spotlight of many Vietnam tour packages to the Mekong region. Vinh Long borders with Can Tho, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh, Dong Thap, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, divided by Mekong rivers, intricate canals and blessed with fertile soil, abundant fruit garden, floating market, handicraft villages.

How to get there

By road: Vinh Long is about 130km from Ho Chi Minh city and 40km from Can Tho, traveling by road is convenient and fast. Many tourists do one day trip to Vinh Long from Ho Chi Minh city.

By plane: There is no airport in Vinh Long, but tourists and flight from Hanoi, Danang, Phu Quoc island to Can Tho airport and transfer to Vinh Long. As mentioned above, it is just 40km.

By boat: Technically, tourists can travel by boat from Ho Chi Minh city to Vinh Long, but this is not the popular option. Mekong cruise companies normally operate their cruise tour packages from Cai Be to other provinces of Mekong delta or to Angkor - Cambodia.

Things to do in Vinh Long

An Binh island: The tour to Vinh Long is essential to include Cai Be floating market in Tien Giang where the local come to trade by boats before taking the boat trip to An Binh Island, an ideal place for tourists to experience homestay, take part in daily life activities with the locals, cycle around the villages, learn how to cook local dishes and enjoy traditional muic in the evening.

Handicraft villages: There are rice paper making, vermicelli making and coconut candy producing villages in Vinh Long that are worth visiting. Tourists can also learn how to make the rice paper.

Van Thanh temple: Built in 1864, It is the temple of literature of Vinh Long and dedicated to Confucianism. If tourists are interested in history and culture of Vinh Long, Van Thanh temple is a must.
